China and Vietnam reaffirm solidarity with Cuba

Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Cuban Communist Party (PCC) and Foreign Minister of Cuba, recently visited China as a Special Envoy of the Cuban party and government. The visit occurred in the context of the viciously enhanced US blockade and the severe crisis this is engendering in the heroic socialist island.

Rodríguez met with Wang Huning, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) on February 5.

Wang said that Chinese President Xi Jinping and Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel met on two occasions last year to draw a blueprint for building a closer China-Cuba community with a shared future, adding that China will firmly support Cuba’s just struggle against external interference and work with Cuba to safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries.

Noting that China is an important force in safeguarding world peace and carries hope for the Global South, Rodríguez said that Cuba is willing to work with China to implement the consensus reached between the two heads of state, continuously enhance relations between the two parties and countries, and uphold international fairness and justice.

The Cuban envoy also met with Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on the same day.

Wang Yi asked Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla to convey President Xi Jinping’s warm greetings to Comrade Raúl Castro Ruz and President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez. Wang Yi stated that this year marks the 100th anniversary of Fidel Castro’s birth. For a long time, Cuba has adhered to the tradition of independence, firmly safeguarding state sovereignty and national dignity, and striving to explore a socialist path suited to its own national conditions. With a spirit of never yielding to coercive power and not fearing hardships, Cuba has earned widespread respect from the international community.

He stated that in the face of the ever-changing international landscape, China and Cuba have consistently treated each other with sincerity and mutual trust and stood together through both challenges and hardships. Currently, the situation in Latin America is undergoing complex and profound changes. China firmly supports Cuba in safeguarding its national sovereignty and security, opposes unwarranted interference by external forces, and rejects attempts to deprive the Cuban people of their right to survival and development. Wang Yi said that upholding fairness and justice is a tradition of China’s diplomacy. China is ready to work with Cuba to implement the common understandings reached by the two heads of state, continue providing support and assistance within its capacity, and strengthen and develop the friendly relations between China and Cuba. Together with like-minded countries, China will make new efforts to enhance the unity of the Global South and safeguard peace in the region and the world.

Rodríguez asked Wang Yi to convey the sincere greetings of Army General Raúl Castro Ruz and President Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez to President Xi Jinping. He stated that Cuba and China are brothers and comrades, expressing gratitude for China’s steadfast support for the Cuban people in opposing external blockades and sanctions, as well as for providing valuable assistance in Cuba’s economic and social development. Cuba is honoured to be the first country in the Western hemisphere to establish diplomatic relations with China and the first to build a bilateral community with a shared future with China. The relations between the two parties and two countries have become a model of solidarity and cooperation between countries of all sizes, between socialist countries, and between China and Latin American nations. Cuba supports the vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity.

Rodríguez met with Liu Haixing, Minister of the International Department of the CPC Central Committee (IDCPC), the previous day.

Liu said, both China and Cuba are socialist countries under the communist party leadership. Though located on different continents, the two countries share a close bond. Under the strategic guidance of General Secretary Xi Jinping and First Secretary Miguel Diaz-Canel, the special friendly relations between China and Cuba have maintained high-level development and are constantly being enriched with new connotations. China firmly supports Cuba in following a socialist path, supports Cuba in opposing foreign interference and blockade, and firmly believes that under the strong leadership of the PCC Central Committee, the Cuban people will overcome all kinds of difficulties and obstacles on the road ahead and continuously advance the cause of socialist construction.

Rodríguez expressed gratitude to the Chinese comrades for extending a helping hand to Cuba during its difficult times. Faced with blockade and interference, Cuba remains determined to and confident in defending its sovereignty, independence, and socialist cause. He stressed that the relations between the two parties are the cornerstone of their bilateral relations.

That theme was also headlined by Granma, the newspaper of the PCC Central Committee, in its report of the meeting. Granma also noted that Rodríguez met with Chen Xiaodong, Director of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA).

The Cuban special envoy met with General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) Central Committee To Lam on February 2.

Welcoming the special envoy shortly after the CPV’s 14th National Congress, General Secretary Lam affirmed that the dispatch of a high-ranking special envoy by the Cuban leadership on this occasion demonstrates the special importance attached by Cuba, as well as the close-knit, faithful, pure and exemplary relationship between the two parties, states and peoples.

Briefing his guest on the outcomes of the 14th National Party Congress, Lam stressed that the congress not only reviewed past achievements but also charted strategic orientations for national development toward 2030 with a vision to 2045. Within this external relations orientation, ties with traditional friends, especially Cuba, always hold a top priority. Sharing the difficulties and challenges Cuba is facing due to the impacts of blockades, embargos and natural disasters, the party leader reaffirmed the Vietnamese party, state and people’s consistent stance of standing in solidarity with, supporting and accompanying the Cuban people, and once again called for the lifting of unilateral blockade and embargo measures against Cuba.

 He emphasised that the Vietnamese people never forget the immortal words of Leader Fidel Castro: “For Vietnam, Cuba is willing to shed even its own blood,” and affirmed that today, in the cause of national construction and defence, Vietnam is also willing to support Cuba to the best of its ability to help the country overcome difficulties and advance development.

Bruno Rodríguez again affirmed the stance of the Cuban party and state: “Vietnam’s success is also Cuba’s success. Vietnam’s experience in party building and economic development is a powerful source of encouragement and inspiration, and the most suitable model of reference for the Cuban revolution.”

 At the meeting, the two sides exchanged views and reached high consensus on major directions and measures to further deepen, substantiate and enhance the effectiveness of the traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba in the coming period, in line with the new context of each country and the international situation.

Regarding economic cooperation, the Party General Secretary emphasised the need for breakthrough steps to make it commensurate with the excellent political relationship, affirming that Vietnam will continue to share experience and effectively implement cooperation projects on rice production to help Cuba gradually achieve food and foodstuff self-sufficiency, while encouraging and creating favourable conditions for enterprises to invest in Cuba.

Bruno Rodríguez affirmed that the Cuban party and state always prioritise strengthening cooperation with Vietnam in potential fields such as solar energy, consumer goods production, tourism and pharmaceuticals; continue close coordination at multilateral international forums; and educate younger generations about the tradition of bilateral relations so as to further develop this special friendship and cooperation.

The following day, Vietnam’s State President Luong Cuong hosted a reception for Rodríguez.

Bruno Rodríguez conveyed warm congratulations from First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel and other senior Cuban leaders on the success of the 14th National Party Congress and Vietnam’s recent achievements, affirming that Cuba views Vietnam’s successes as a great source of encouragement for the Cuban revolution. Inter-party ties: the cornerstone of relations between Cuba and China

February 5 (Granma) – As part of his visit to the Asian giant as Special Envoy of the Cuban Party and Government, Bruno Rodríguez Parrilla, member of the Political Bureau and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with Liu Haixing, head of the International Liaison Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. During the meeting, both parties emphasized that inter-party ties are the cornerstone of bilateral relations.

The senior Chinese official expressed his best wishes for the people and government of the island, while underscoring the dynamism of relations between Beijing and Havana. For his part, the Cuban diplomatic chief noted that this exchange is taking place amid a volatile and dangerous global situation, marked by a rapid deterioration of the international order, which translates into threats to peace and the sovereignty of peoples.

Despite the turbulent global landscape, Prensa Latina highlighted that China and Cuba are moving forward in building a community of shared future, high coordination, support for their fundamental interests, mutual political trust, and multisectoral cooperation, driven by the consensus reached between their respective leaders.

As part of the exchanges held during this visit, Rodríguez Parrilla spoke with Chen Xiaodong, director of the China International Development Cooperation Agency (CIDCA).
