A high-level delegation of Brazil’s Workers’ Party (PT), led by its General Secretary, Henrique Fontana, visited China in June.

Meeting the delegation on June 13, Liu Jianchao, Minister of the International Department of the Communist Party of China’s Central Committee (IDCPC), noted that their visit followed that in April by Brazil’s President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, who, together with his Chinese counterpart, Xi Jinping, had  jointly made plans for the development of China-Brazil relations in the new era. Liu said he hoped that both sides will take this visit as an opportunity to further implement the important consensus reached by the two heads of state, deepen exchanges between the ruling parties, enhance political mutual trust, and exchange experience in state governance and administration.

Liu added that China’s efforts  in promoting the process of the country’s modernization will not only help the Chinese people achieve common prosperity, but will also bring more development opportunities to countries around the world, including Brazil. The Chinese side supports the Brazilian side in playing a greater role on the international stage.

Fontana said that his visit, following that of President Lula, fully shows that the PT attaches high importance to developing relations with the CPC. Next year will be the 40th anniversary of the establishment of relations between the two Parties. The Brazilian side hopes to see inter-party exchanges play a greater role in deepening relations between the two countries and friendship between the two peoples. The PT admires the huge success of the CPC in promoting domestic development with a people-centered approach and responding to international challenges. His party believes that China’s successful development model provides important references for the vast number of developing countries. He further applauded the Chinese side’s important role in promoting the political settlement of the Ukraine issue, and said his party is willing to strengthen cooperation with the Chinese side under the framework of the United Nations, the Group of 20, and the BRICS, oppose the new Cold War mentality, champion multilateralism, and together build a multipolar and prosperous world.

  1. I am from Vancouver,Canada and i wanted to say that over the years Brazil had its share of bad Gov’ts. Now Brazil got a good Gov’t and have good relations with Cuba, Nicaragua, Venezuela, Russia and China. These relations will help Brazil a lot and in the long run help Latin America as a whole. Latin America is finally able to make headway in getting away from the World Bank and the IMF which is strangling Latin America.
