China and Vietnam marching together on the journey of socialist modernisation

The Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV) recently celebrated its 95th founding anniversary. Founded as the Communist Party of Indochina (CPI) on February 3, 1930 in Hong Kong, the CPI may also be considered as the root of the ruling Lao People’s Revolutionary Party (LPRP) and Cambodian People’s Party (CPP).

Greeting the anniversary, the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) wrote to its Vietnamese counterpart that: “In the past 95 years, the CPV has united and led the Vietnamese people in successfully realising national unification and liberation with remarkable achievements in the cause of the country’s socialist construction and transformation.

“The CPC and the CPV share a long-standing revolutionary friendship and amicable partnership. Under the personal guidance and careful nurturing of the leaders of previous generations including Mao Zedong and Ho Chi Minh, the two peoples have supported each other in revolutionary struggles, marching together in socialist construction, in the drive of reform and opening up and on the journey of socialist modernisation.

“The CPC is willing to work with the CPV to implement the important consensus reached by the top leaders of the two parties, uphold the 16-word guideline of ‘long-term stability, future orientation, good-neighbourly friendship and comprehensive cooperation’ and the spirit of ‘good neighbours, good friends, good comrades and good partners,’… and push for more progress in building a China-Vietnam community with a shared future to bring greater benefits to both peoples and contribute further to the cause of peace and progress for humanity.”

At time of writing, the CPV newspaper Nhân Dân is continuing to publish a series of articles highlighting the greetings received from fraternal and friendly parties on the anniversary. The first such article was devoted to those parties with which the CPV maintains historic special relations and, besides that from the CPC, reported greetings from the Central Committee of the LPRP, President of the CPP Hun Sen, First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez and Leader of the Cuban Revolution General Raúl Castro Ruz, and General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea Kim Jong Un.

The message from the LPRP Central Committee underlined that over the past 95 years, the CPV, founded and led by President Ho Chi Minh, with its sound, skilful and creative policies has led the Vietnamese people to many glorious victories in the struggle for national liberation and reunification.

“We firmly believe that by upholding its glorious revolutionary tradition and building upon these great and comprehensive achievements, the Party, State, and people of Vietnam will continue to reap new and even greater successes in implementing the Resolution of the 13th National Congress of the CPV and preparing for the upcoming Party congresses at all levels, leading to the successful organisation of the 14th National Congress of the CPV, ” the message read.

On this occasion, the LPRP would like to express its profound gratitude for the Party, State, and people of Vietnam for their invaluable, effective, and timely support for the revolutionary cause of Laos over the years. The Party, State, and people of Laos will continue to stand side by side with the Party, State, and people of Vietnam to do their utmost to preserve and promote the rare and cherished relationship for the common interests of both nations, contributing to peace, stability, cooperation, and development in the region and the world.

The message from the Cuban leaders reaffirmed Cuba’s commitment to deepening the friendship, solidarity and cooperation between the two nations, based on the legacy of Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro Ruz, the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, and beloved President Ho Chi Minh.

Kim Jong Un wrote that he was delighted to see that under the leadership of the CPV, the Vietnamese people have made remarkable progress in developing a prosperous and strong nation. He expressed his belief that the traditional friendship between the two Parties will continue to grow in the common struggle to safeguard and preserve the socialist cause.

Nhân Dân also reported that Belarus President Aleksandr Lukashenko wrote that the CPV members are always examples of true patriots who have pioneered in the political and socio-economic development of the fatherland to build a strong sovereign country. Today, the CPV is continuing the cause of socialism building and promoting Vietnam’s role and prestige in the region and the world. He added that Belarus and Vietnam have been faithful friends and responsible partners whose relationship is based on the principle of mutual respect and assistance.

At a meeting of Sri Lankan political parties in the capital Colombo, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Arun Hemachandra, on behalf of the People’s Liberation Front (Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna – JVP), highlighted Vietnam’s development achievements under the CPV’s leadership in recent years. He emphasised that the CPV’s steadfast and sound leadership is a crucial factor in the struggle for national liberation and reunification of Vietnam, as well as in its current economic development and poverty reduction efforts.

He also acknowledged Vietnam’s important role in shaping a new global diplomatic landscape, especially following the national liberation revolution, which has created opportunities for expanding cooperation with many countries worldwide.

In an interview with Nhân Dân, Ling Dequan, a veteran journalist of the Xinhua News Agency and a leading Chinese authority on Vietnam, said that the CPV, founded and led by President Ho Chi Minh (known then as Nguyen Ai Quoc), surmounted countless hardships and sacrifices to find out a right path to save the country and its people, culminating in the victory of the August 1945 Revolution and the subsequent establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam) the same year. It was historically proved that the CPV was the force organising and leading the liberation movement to gain national independence for Vietnam.

He highlighted Ho Chi Minh’s revolutionary activities in China’s Guangzhou during November 1924-May 1927, noting that this place was an important overseas base of Vietnamese revolutionaries at that time. With support from the CPC, Nguyen Ai Quoc set up the Vietnam Revolutionary Youth League in Guangzhou and gave political training to young Vietnamese there. His revolutionary activities in Guangzhou held great significance as they disseminated Marxism-Leninism and made important preparations in terms of politics, thought, organisation, and personnel for the establishment of the CPV in 1930.

Ling attributed Vietnam’s complete victories in the resistance wars against France and the US during 1945-1975 firstly to the clear-sighted leadership by President Ho Chi Minh and the CPV, along with the indomitable will and sacrifice by the Vietnamese army and people. Had it not been for President Ho Chi Minh and the CPV’s leadership, or the Vietnamese army and people’s fierce battles, the victories of the two resistance wars as well as the country’s independence, sovereignty and unity would have been out of reach.

He held that the most critical factor for the CPV to firmly maintain its leadership over the revolution is to constantly stay steadfast in its ideal and goals, rely on the people, work wholeheartedly to serve the people, and strive for the people’s happiness. The unanimity between the Party and the people is the “miraculous weapon” helping the Vietnamese revolution gain continuous victories under the CPV’s leadership.

Director of the Hong Kong Chronicles Institute, Dr. Sun Wenbin told the Vietnam News Agency that in the 1920s, the Vietnamese leader was an active revolutionary in France, where he met and had close relations with some patriotic youths of China studying there such as Xiao San, Zhou Enlai, and Li Fuchun.

From 1924 to 1927, he carried out revolutionary activities and worked with some leaders of the Communist Party of China in Guangzhou. There, with support from Chinese comrades, he gradually completed preparations in terms of theory, personnel, and organisation to chair the establishment of the CPV in Hong Kong on February 3, 1930.

Speaking of the period after the founding of the People’s Republic of China on October 1, 1949, and during the Vietnamese people’s wars of resistance against foreign aggression, she said that the images of President Ho Chi Minh continuously appeared on the People’s Daily and some other major newspapers of China. Many Chinese people also called him “Uncle Ho” as the Vietnamese did.

The time-tested friendship between Vietnam and China, including the meaningful stories about the time President Ho Chi Minh carried out revolutionary activities and established the CPV in Hong Kong, forms a solid foundation for the two sides to continue strengthening cooperation for common development and a better and happier life for their people.

Establishment of CPV a turning point in Vietnam’s history: Chinese scholar

Feb. 2 (Nhân Dân) — Had it not been for President Ho Chi Minh and the Communist Party of Vietnam (CPV)’s leadership, or the Vietnamese army and people’s fierce battles, the victories of the two resistance wars as well as the country’s independence, sovereignty and unity would have been out of reach, a Chinese researcher has said.

Talking to the Vietnam News Agency ahead of the CPV’s 95th anniversary, Ling said that the CPV, founded and led by President Ho Chi Minh (known as Nguyen Ai Quoc then), surmounted countless hardships and sacrifices to find out a right path to save the country and its people, culminating in the victory of the August 1945 Revolution and the subsequent establishment of the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (now the Socialist Republic of Vietnam) the same year. His revolutionary activities in Guangzhou held great significance as they disseminated Marxism-Leninism and made important preparations in terms of politics, thought, organisation, and personnel for the establishment of the CPV in 1930.

Besides, Ling noted, the force of Vietnamese revolutionaries, represented by Ho Chi Minh, and the CPC laid the cornerstone for the profound friendship, sharing, and solidarity between the two countries.

The researcher attributed Vietnam’s complete victories in the resistance wars against France and the US during 1945–1975 firstly to the clear-sighted leadership by President Ho Chi Minh and the CPV, along with the indomitable will and sacrifice by the Vietnamese army and people.

Had it not been for President Ho Chi Minh and the CPV’s leadership, or the Vietnamese army and people’s fierce battles, the victories of the two resistance wars as well as the country’s independence, sovereignty and unity would have been out of reach, according to Ling.

He went on to say that over the last five decades, since 1975, Vietnam has obtained enormous achievements during the cause of socialist construction and renewal to transform from a poor and war-torn country into a developing and middle-income one.

The year 2025 is greatly important to Vietnam as the country is preparing for the 14th National Party Congress, which will open up a new era – that of the nation’s rise. Facing a changing world, Vietnam, like many others, now holds new opportunities and also encounters numerous difficulties and challenges.

The decisive factor in the implementation of the national development plan is to enhance the CPV’s leadership to continue leading the Vietnamese people to progress on the path and towards the goals set by President Ho Chi Minh, the researcher on Vietnam added.

Ling cited CPC General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping as saying during the recent phone talks with CPV General Secretary To Lam that under the CPV Central Committee’s leadership, the Party, State and people of Vietnam will take firm steps to successfully organise the 14th National Party Congress and realise the two centenary goals for 2030 and 2045.
