China and Serbia to jointly promote the four global initiatives

China and Serbia agreed two important joint statements and concluded a raft of cooperation agreements during President Aleksandar Vučić’s May 24-28 state visit.

The two sides will jointly promote the implementation of the global governance initiative, advocate and adhere to core concepts such as sovereign equality, compliance with the international rule of law, practice multilateralism, advocate people-orientedness, and focus on action orientation, adhere to the global governance concept of extensive consultation, joint construction and sharing, and promote the construction of a more just and reasonable global governance system. Reiterates that in the current international situation of mixed changes and chaos, all parties must firmly uphold the international system with the United Nations at its core, the international order based on international law, and the basic norms governing international relations based on the purposes and principles of the UN Charter. Serbia is ready to join and actively participate in the “Group of Friends of Global Governance”. The two sides will jointly promote the International Mediation Institute to play an active role in peacefully resolving disputes and promoting friendly cooperation among countries.

The two sides believe that all countries should work together to address the challenges posed by climate change in accordance with the principles of fairness, common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities, and promote the full and effective implementation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and its Paris Agreement.

The two sides reiterated their support for the United Nations to play a leading role in the global governance of artificial intelligence, and expressed their willingness to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, strengthen the docking and coordination of artificial intelligence development strategies, governance rules, and technical standards, and build artificial intelligence into an international public product that benefits mankind. Serbia supports the establishment and is willing to join the World Organization for Cooperation in Artificial Intelligence, and supports China in hosting the World Artificial Intelligence Conference and the High-level Conference on Global Governance of Artificial Intelligence.


Serbia, China sign multiple documents on cooperation

May 25 (Government of Serbia) – In Beijing today, in the presence of President of the Republic of Serbia Aleksandar Vučić and President of the People’s Republic of China Xi Jinping, several documents on cooperation between Serbia and China in numerous areas were signed.

Vučić and Xi signed a joint statement on continuously promoting and building a Serbia-China community with a shared future in the new era and a joint statement on jointly advancing the implementation of four global initiatives.

Serbia and China signed, among other documents, the Agreement on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters and the Memorandum of Understanding between the Government of Serbia and the Government of China on jointly promoting cooperation within the framework of the Global Security Initiative (GSI).

A medium-term action plan on joint cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative was also signed between the Government of Serbia and the Government of China for the period from 2026 to 2028.

Among the signed documents is a memorandum of understanding on advancing cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence, a cooperation programme in the field of education, as well as on strengthening cooperation in the field of vocational and dual education and lifelong learning.

Memoranda of understanding on cooperation in the field of the environment and on strategic cooperation in technological development and innovation were also signed in Beijing.

Among the signed documents are the memorandum of understanding on strengthening economic cooperation in industrial and supply chains, in the field of tourism, as well as the agreement on development cooperation between the Government of Serbia and the Government of China.
