Comedian and activist Lee Camp interviewed CGTN journalist and vlogger Li Jingjing on his program Redacted Tonight about common Western misconceptions about China. Highlighted in the interview is the importance of Chinese voices in countering the propaganda war and how these voices have been silenced and ignored by Western media.
1. I’ve traveled all over the world (six times in Xinjiang). I can confirm that few countries treat their ethnic minorities as well as China, Uighur included.
2. I’ve been following China’s socioeconomic development for more than 40 years. Except Ningxia, I’ve visited everywhere else. I’ve never ceased to be amazed by China’s socioeconomic progress. Over the past 40 years, it has risen from among the world’s poorest to the world’s No 2 or indeed No 1 in terms of purchasing power parity (PPP). In technology too, it’s among the top in many key fields. In 1980, China was neck and neck with India in GDP per capita. It’s now over five times ahead.
