Xi Jinping meets leaders from Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Turkmenistan, Iran, Malaysia and Tajikistan

On September 2, Chinese President Xi Jinping met in Beijing with the leaders of a number of friendly countries who were visiting China to attend the summit meetings of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) and to participate in the commemoration of the 80th anniversary of victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War.

Meeting with Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in the morning, President Xi pointed out that China and Uzbekistan are friendly neighbors and all-weather comprehensive strategic partners for a new era. President Berdimuhamedov expressed his pleasure to visit China for the SCO Tianjin Summit and extended his congratulations on the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People’s War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. Since we met in Kazan (Russia) last year, departments of the two countries have actively implemented the important common understandings reached by the two sides, and bilateral cooperation has delivered many new outcomes. China always places its relations with Iran high on its diplomatic agenda in the Middle East.

President Xi emphasised that the use of force is not the correct means to resolve differences, while communication and dialogue is the right path toward lasting peace. China attaches importance to Iran’s repeated pledge that it does not seek to develop nuclear weapons, and respects Iran’s right to the peaceful use of nuclear energy. China supports Iran in safeguarding sovereignty, territorial integrity and national dignity, and defending its legitimate rights and interests through political negotiations. Meeting in the evening with Malaysian Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim, President Xi pointed out that China and Malaysia are good friends with common vision. The two sides have stood together through the changing international landscape and advanced together on the paths toward modernisation, ushering in a new “Golden 50 Years” for China-Malaysia relations. President Xi recalled his state visit to Malaysia in April this year, during which the two sides reached important consensus on building a high-level strategic China-Malaysia community with a shared future. The two sides should work together to become an inspiring example of cooperation on high-quality development in the region, strive to create highlights of cooperation in emerging industries such as artificial intelligence, new energy, and semiconductors, and ensure the high-level development of key projects including the “Two Countries, Twin Parks” and the East Coast Rail Link. It is important to keep carrying out the Confucian-Islamic Civilisational Dialogue and strengthen the bonds of people-to-people exchanges.
