Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC), visited the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) on April 9-10 at the invitation of his DPRK counterpart Choe Son Hui, who is Foreign Minister and also a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK).
In their talks on April 9, Wang said that in early September last year, Xi Jinping, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, and Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the WPK, held a historic meeting in Beijing, reaching important consensus on the overall, strategic and directional issues concerning bilateral ties.
Their meeting provides important strategic guidance for further developing China-DPRK relations, pushes bilateral ties into a new stage and opens a new chapter in friendly exchanges between the two countries, which is of great and far-reaching significance, Wang added.
The past year has witnessed a series of highlights in China-DPRK exchanges, which strongly demonstrated that the two countries’ traditional friendship forged in blood remains everlasting and unbreakable, the Chinese Foreign Minister said, noting that this year marks the 65th anniversary of the signing of the China-DPRK Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance. (The DPRK is the only country with which China has a treaty of this type.)
Over the past 65 years, Wang said, no matter how the international and regional situations have changed, China and the DPRK, as good neighbours, good friends and good comrades, have always trusted and supported each other, making unremitting efforts to maintain regional and world peace and stability and promote their respective development.
Wang added that China is willing to work with the DPRK side to hold commemorative events for the 65th anniversary of the signing of the treaty, strengthen high-level exchanges, enhance dialogue and practical cooperation at all levels and in various fields, deepen people-to-people exchanges and mutual understanding, and contribute to their respective economic and social development.
For her part, Choe said that the DPRK-China friendship is based on the common socialist system and traditional friendship, describing bilateral relations as deep-rooted, solid and sustainable. It is the unwavering position of the WPK and the nation to advance DPRK-China friendship and cooperation following the trend of the times and the will of the two peoples.
The DPRK, Choe said, fully supports the one-China principle, firmly opposes any interference in China’s internal affairs, and resolutely supports China’s position on safeguarding sovereignty and territorial integrity concerning Taiwan, Xizang [Tibet], Xinjiang, and other issues of China’s core interests.
She also said that the DPRK side fully endorses the vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity and the four global initiatives proposed by Xi, and highly values China’s just position on and important role in international and regional affairs.
The DPRK government hosted a reception for Wang Yi and his delegation that evening.
In her speech, Choe Son Hui said that it is the consistent policy of the WPK and the DPRK government to value and steadily develop the friendly relations with China, which have given steady continuity to the good traditions of unity and cooperation with socialism as their core, overcoming all the tempests of history.
Replying, Wang Yi expressed thanks for the warm hospitality and said that the new successes made by the DPRK in socialist construction despite the ever-escalating moves of the US and other Western forces to isolate and stifle it are the fruition of diligence and wisdom displayed by the Korean people under the wise leadership of Comrade General Secretary Kim Jong Un.
Noting that the traditional China-DPRK friendship is a common precious asset as it was forged in the revolutionary struggle and has constantly developed in the course of socialist construction, he stressed that the historic meeting between Comrade General Secretary Xi Jinping and Comrade General Secretary Kim Jong Un last September opened up a new phase of the China-DPRK friendly and cooperative relations.
He expressed the belief that the bilateral cooperation would further develop, sincerely hoping that the Korean people would achieve fresh victories ceaselessly in socialist construction and create a happier life under the firm leadership of the WPK headed by Comrade General Secretary Kim Jong Un.

Kim Jong Un noted that he still vividly remembers his meeting with Xi during his visit to China in September of last year. Kim said that the DPRK is willing to take the grand blueprint established by the recent 9th Congress of the WPK as an opportunity to continue deepening the friendship and cooperative ties centred on socialism with China. The DPRK is committed to strengthening high-level exchanges, enhancing strategic communication, providing firm mutual support, and advancing the development of the two countries’ socialist causes respectively, so as to contribute to the well-being of the two peoples and to world peace and stability. He wished the Chinese party, government and people greater success in the course of accomplishing the cause of socialist modernisation and national prosperity under the outstanding leadership of Comrade Xi Jinping.
Wang Yi said that China is willing to work with the DPRK to jointly implement the important consensus reached by the top leaders of the two parties and two countries, and to promote practical cooperation.
He recalled that Kim paid a successful visit to China last September and attended commemorations marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Chinese People’s War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and the World Anti-Fascist War. During the visit, Xi and Kim held a historic meeting that provided strategic guidance and opened up new prospects for China-DPRK relations. China stands ready to intensify exchanges and interactions with the DPRK to bring new contemporary significance to the traditional friendship between the two countries.

Also on April 10, Wang visited and paid tribute at the Cemetery of the Fallen Soldiers of the Chinese People’s Volunteers in Kangdong County. He presented a floral basket with a ribbon reading: “The fallen soldiers of the Chinese People’s Volunteers will be immortal”. The Chinese People’s Volunteers participated in the War to Resist US Aggression and Aid Korea, known in the DPRK as the Fatherland Liberation War, 1950-53.
Wang Yi was welcomed and seen off at Pyongyang Airport by Choe Son Hui. The ceremony on both occasions also featured a red carpet, a guard of honour and the participation of hundreds of working people waving the national flags of both countries, going considerably beyond the customary diplomatic protocol for a ministerial level visit and reflecting the long traditions of friendship and solidarity between the two neighbouring socialist countries.

The national flags of the DPRK and the PRC were fluttering at the flagstaffs of Pyongyang International Airport and the guard of honor of the Korean People’s Army lined up at the apron before the terminal.
The Chinese foreign minister and his party were warmly greeted by Choe Son Hui, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea and foreign minister of the DPRK, officials of the Foreign Ministry, Chinese Ambassador to the DPRK Wang Yajun and staff members of his embassy.
A woman worker presented a bouquet to Wang Yi.
At the airport, the masses warmly welcomed the friendly Chinese friends, waving national flags of the two countries.

Chinese FM and His Party Visit Cemetery of CPV Fallen Soldiers
Pyongyang, April 11 (KCNA) — Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and foreign minister of the People’s Republic of China, and his party on a visit to the DPRK laid a flower basket at the Cemetery of the Fallen Soldiers of the Chinese People’s Volunteers in Kangdong County on April 10.
Accompanying them were Kim Myong Su, vice-minister of Foreign Affairs of the DPRK, and Wang Yajun, Chinese ambassador to the DPRK.
The guards of honor of the Korean People’s Army lined up at the cemetery.
The national anthems of the People’s Republic of China and the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea were played.
A flower basket in the name of the Chinese foreign minister and his party was placed at the monument to the cemetery.
Written on the ribbon of the flower basket were letters “The fallen soldiers of the Chinese People’s Volunteers will be immortal”.
The participants paid silent tribute to the CPV martyrs, who fought bravely in the sacred war to repel the invasion by the imperialist allied forces, and went round the cemetery.
Chinese FM Leaves Pyongyang
Pyongyang, April 11 (KCNA) — Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and foreign minister of the People’s Republic of China, left here on April 10 after visiting the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea at the invitation of the DPRK Foreign Ministry.
Choe Son Hui, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea and foreign minister of the DPRK, officials of the DPRK Foreign Ministry, Wang Yajun, Chinese ambassador to the DPRK, and staff members of his embassy warmly saw off the Chinese foreign minister and his party at Pyongyang International Airport.
The plane carrying the Chinese friendship mission left here amid the warm send-off by the masses.
